A Fresh 48 photography session is a special photo shoot that takes place within the first 48 hours of a baby’s life, typically in the hospital or birthing center where the baby was born. The goal of a Fresh 48 is to capture the raw emotion and fleeting moments immediately after childbirth. Here are some key aspects of a Fresh 48 session:
Timing: I will come to the hospital or birthing center within 48 hours after birth.
Setting: Session will take place in your labor or post partum room, depending on how soon you ask me to come.
Moments captured: I will photograph you breastfeeding (if you are comfortable with that), siblings meeting their younger brother or sister for the first time, and details like feet, hospital bracelets, and umbilical cord.
Style: The photography style is often natural and candid, focusing on real moments and emotions rather than posed shots.
Duration: These sessions usually last 1-2 hours, depending on baby’s needs and temperament.
Fresh 48 sessions are kept very simple, I don’t use props, but I can bring wraps and blankets. I encourage you to bring any outfits our items that are special to you. Neutral tones make for timeless photos, I recommend Hush Kids Boutique in Windsor for quality, natural fiber clothing for your baby’s first pictures.
If you plan on having a Fresh 48 session, make sure to plan ahead and talk ahead of time about how we will communicate after baby makes their arrival. Click here to book or chat more.
